今回の曲はバリー・マ二ロウの「Copacabana」(コパカバーナ)です！
彼はミュージカルや映画音楽の作曲にも力を入れ、多くのアーティストのアルバムもプロデュースしてきました。特にベット・ミドラーとは彼女のコンサートで彼が歌ったことがある仲だったそうです。さらに、当時70年代にはフランク・シナトラやボブ・ディラン等の著名人も「私はあなたの影響を受けている」と称賛されたそうです。
この曲は78年に発表された彼の代表曲の一つで、79年にはグラミー賞を受賞。(アルバムは「Even Now」に収録)
コパカバーナといえばブラジルのリオにあるビーチを想像しますが、曲中ではその名にちなんだニューヨークにあるナイトクラブのことです。93年にはリミックスver.で日本のディスコでも再ブレイクしました！
サンバの陽気なリズムとは裏腹に、歌詞の内容はある女性の悲劇が歌われています。
